|
The Hit that saved Major League Baseball in Seattle. In the postseason, the Mariners defeated the New York Yankees in the best-of-five American League Division Series after being down 2 games to 0, a series notable for Edgar Martinez' 11th-inning double that clinched the series for the Mariners. |

» Seattle Mariners manager flips out Thu, 05 Jun 2008 11:41:36 +0000
|
I was watching the score to see who won the hockey game (damn you Detroit for winning the Stanley Cup) and I turned to the score when they shown highlights from the Angels and Mariners game when I saw the manager flip out when talking to the press. I watched the score for about a hour just to get this on video and it was worth it. He flips out because of the position the Mariners are in right now as I don't really care about baseball but this was amazing to watch. |

» Seattle Mariners Edgar Martinez "Big Bat" Eagle Commercial Thu, 11 Dec 2008 00:03:59 +0000
|
Northwest superstore Eagle Hardware & Garden found its market share at risk as category killer Home Depot began opening stores next to nearly every Eagle Hardware location. The Jones team used Eagles home field advantage literally. Television commercials featuring Seattle Mariners stars appealed to the hometown crowd while boasting Eagles superior selection. The popularity of the campaign forced Home Depot to buy out Eagles Mariners media sponsorship, but it was too late. The 8-year campaign had a very loyal following. Eagle beat Home Depots sales in the Northwest every year until purchased by Lowes in 1999. |

» Seattle Mariners Opening Day 4/14/09 Safeco Field -- Griffey's Return! Mon, 29 Jun 2009 06:42:52 +0000
|
Part of the opening ceremonies for the Seattle Mariners, Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington. Note the pronounced ovation for Ken Griffey, Jr. in his first game back to Seattle as a Mariner, starting at about the 2:50 mark. I went to the first six home games of the Mariners' season, three against the Los Angeles Angels and three against the Detroit Tigers. Witnessed Griffey's 400th home run as a Mariner, a grand slam home run by Ichiro Suzuki (who also got a big ovation during this ceremony even though he was still on the DL that day), and lots of other fun stuff. |

» Talbot helps Indians down Mariners 4-2 (AP) Sat, 04 Sep 2010 22:19:58 PDT
Mitch Talbot allowed an unearned run in 6 2/3 innings to help the Cleveland Indians top the Seattle Mariners 4-2 on Saturday night. Talbot (9-11) struck out six to pick up his first win since June 27. He allowed five hits and a walk. Indians starters have allowed three runs or fewer in nine of their past 10 starts.

» Mariners Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) Sat, 04 Sep 2010 02:40:41 PDT
Catcher Adam Moore continues to evolve as the season progresses, and the results can't always be seen in the boxscore.
Moore had a huge ninth inning in Friday's 1-0 win over Cleveland, without which the Mariners would have lost the lead and, probably, the game.
After closer David Aardsma gave up a walk to open the ninth, Moore came up throwing and nailed Trevor Crowe on a steal attempt for the inning's first out. Later, Aardsma gave up back-to-back-singles and a wild pitch to put the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position.
With the lead now on the verge of slipping away, Aardsma threw a hard slider in the dirt that Moore was able to snare, preventing the tying run from coming home.

» French allows 1 hit in 7 innings in Mariners' 1-0 (AP) Fri, 03 Sep 2010 22:45:01 PDT
Luke French, given a lead in the first inning, knew his challenge was to keep the Cleveland Indians scoreless during his time on the mound. That much he accomplished, along with a bonus. He kept the Indians hitless through 6 1-3 innings in helping the Seattle Mariners hang on to an eventual three-hit 1-0 victory Friday night.

» Choo drives in 5 to power Indians (AP) Thu, 02 Sep 2010 23:17:10 PDT
The Seattle Mariners found out Shin-Soo Choo is one of those players who can do it all. Choo drove in five runs with a bases-loaded double and a two-run home run to give the Cleveland Indians a 6-3 victory over the Mariners. Choo, traded to the Indians by Seattle in 2006, hit a 3-1 fastball from Doug Fister (4-11) against the right-center-field wall in the Indians' four-run sixth to score all...

» Matsui's homer key in Angels 4-2 win (AP) Wed, 01 Sep 2010 22:50:06 PDT
Hideki Matsui knew immediately when he turned on Jason Vargas' belt-high fastball that he didn't quite get all of it. So Matsui watched, closely, as he trotted down toward first base, waiting to see if Ichiro Suzuki was going to climb the fence and rob his countryman. "It might have been front page," Matsui said about the possible reaction in Japan.

» Seattle RHP Shawn Kelley gets good surgery news (AP) Wed, 01 Sep 2010 18:33:23 PDT
Mariners right-handed reliever Shawn Kelley received good news during exploratory elbow surgery and does not need to undergo a full Tommy John ligament replacement operation. Seattle interim manager Daren Brown says Tuesday that Kelley's surgery showed the ligament in his right elbow that was previously repaired was fine, but there was some fraying and wearing at another spot.

» Mariners rally for three in the eighth for win (AP) Tue, 31 Aug 2010 23:20:09 PDT
Felix Hernandez's season can't be fully measured by his so-so won-loss record. It seems his value this year as the Seattle Mariners' ace is how well he 'holds' victories. Hernandez held the Los Angeles Angels to just three hits and no runs through seven innings, walking three and striking out eight.
|
» Angels get 3 HRs to beat Mariners 5-3 (AP) Mon, 30 Aug 2010 23:31:30 PDT
It's a wonder what three home runs in one inning does to the mood of a ballclub. Bobby Abreu, Hideki Matsui, and Peter Bourjos each homered in the sixth inning and the Los Angeles Angels broke a nasty scoreless spell for a 5-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners Monday night. "I can tell there was a good feeling in the dugout.

» M's score 2 in 7th to beat Twins 2-1 (AP) Sun, 29 Aug 2010 17:03:32 PDT
It's telling of Ron Gardenhire's competitiveness -- and the insecurity of a pennant race -- that Minnesota's usually pleasant, joking manager was just about seething. And his team leads its division by 4 1/2 games. A wild pitch, a misplayed fly ball and a fielder's choice by Adam Moore that should have been an inning-ending double play in Seattle's two-run seventh inning sent...

» Blackburn, Fuentes help Twins blank Mariners 1-0 (AP) Sat, 28 Aug 2010 18:52:48 PDT
Nick Blackburn kept the Seattle Mariners crossed up all day. Newly acquired reliever Brian Fuentes met the Minnesota Twins' expectations. The duo combined on a two-hitter Saturday, leading the Twins to a 1-0 win over the Mariners. "Joe (Mauer) and I had these guys off balance and they just weren't putting good swings on the ball," Blackburn said.
|
» Mauer's 3 hits lead Baker, Twins over Mariners 6-3 (AP) Fri, 27 Aug 2010 23:29:32 PDT
Scott Baker made a mechanical change last month and hasn't lost since. His bullpen has been modified, too, which could help Minnesota settle the AL Central race. Joe Mauer had three hits and two RBIs to lead Baker and the first-place Twins to a 6-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.

» Hernandez pitches Seattle to 4-2 win, split of DH (AP) Wed, 25 Aug 2010 20:17:45 PDT
Felix Hernandez kept the Boston Red Sox from making a big jump in the playoff race. Seattle's ace became the third youngest pitcher since 1952 to reach 1,000 strikeouts, pitched 7 1-3 strong innings and led the Mariners to a 4-2 win and a split of their day-night doubleheader Wednesday. Boston won the opener 5-3 behind Josh Beckett, and a sweep, on a night when the New York Yankees and Tampa...
|
» Beckett reverses fortunes, helps Boston to 5-3 win (AP) Wed, 25 Aug 2010 14:56:18 PDT
The Boston Red Sox sure could use former ace Josh Beckett to get on a roll and help their playoff chances. He's not sure he will. "I don't know," he said after Boston's 5-3 win over the Seattle Mariners in the first game of a day-night doubleheader Wednesday. "If I can pitch like I did the first six innings, yeah.
|
» M's, Red Sox set for doubleheader after rainout (AP) Tue, 24 Aug 2010 17:53:20 PDT
Johnny Damon won't be playing left field for the Red Sox in Boston's longshot bid for a playoff spot. Expect to see a group of far less accomplished outfielders -- Daniel Nava, Bill Hall, Darnell McDonald and Ryan Kalish -- sharing that spot. Damon rejected Boston's waiver claim on him and said Tuesday he's staying with the Detroit Tigers.
|
» Scutaro drives in 4 in Boston's win over Seattle (AP) Mon, 23 Aug 2010 19:51:22 PDT
On a night made for singles, Marco Scutaro came up with a timely pair. Scutaro's second two-run single gave Boston the lead for good and John Lackey pitched eight strong innings to lead the Red Sox to a 6-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on a windy, drizzly Monday night. With leadoff hitter Jacoby Ellsbury sidelined for most of the season due to rib injuries, Scutaro has moved from ninth to...

» Cano, Sabathia lead Yanks to rainy rout of Seattle (AP) Sun, 22 Aug 2010 15:48:21 PDT
Robinson Cano looks as comfortable in the cleanup spot as CC Sabathia does on the Yankee Stadium mound. Cano hit a grand slam and drove in a career-high six runs, Sabathia extended his home winning streak to 15 decisions and the New York Yankees routed the Seattle Mariners 10-0 on a rain-slicked field Sunday.
